volunteer opportunities that match your education,
training, experience, interests, or one where you think
you will be able to make a valuable contribution.
Executive Committee meets the first Tuesday of every
month. Community Meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of every
month. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings.
Armed Services & Veteran Affairs
Works closely with agencies responsible for providing services to members of the Armed Forces and Veterans to ensure programs are administered fairly and justly to the minority community.
Communication
Promotes positive images in the media and works to eliminate employment segregation in radio, television, and other areas of this industry.
Community Coordination
Enlists the support of other community organizations on issues affecting the interests of minority groups.
Economic Development
Works to preserve and expand economic empowerment through research, partnerships with public and private entities, and the promotion of business ownership and homeownership.

- Seek to eliminate segregation and other discriminatory practices in public education;
- Study local educational conditions affecting minority
groups;
- Investigate the public school system and school zoning;
Familiarize itself with textbook material there from
which is racially derogatory;
- Seek to stimulate school attendance;
- Keep informed of school conditions and strive to
correct abuses where found;
- Investigate the effects of standardized and high stakes testing practices;
- Investigate teacher certification; and
- Advocate and promote parental involvement in
education

Parent Support For Education Council (PSFEC)
Develops and implement policy
determined by the Council under the direction of
the local
NAACP Executive Committee.

Conducts research and
engages in advocacy in areas of education
Office Specialist
Service
in front office receiving phone calls, messages,
incoming mail and sorting, maintaining referral
center. (1-4 hours per
month-optional)
Scholarship
Locating scholarships and distributing to parents
and students; promoting essay development for
students.
Communication
Promotes positive images in the media
about the Education Committee and its programs.
Tutors
(Academic and Computer - Grades 3-5, 6-8 and
9-Adult) - 2-4 hours, per week.
Parent Advocate
Receive training and go to schools with
parents.
Parent Outreach Recruitment and Information
Committee - interacts with community at local
community
gathering centers.
Program Committee
Plans and develop programs and
agenda for forums, conferences and monthly meetings.

Finance
Studies the financial needs of the Branch and shall be responsible for drafting an adequate annual budget.
Freedom Fund
Plans and conducts fundraising activities in conjunction with the Finance Committee.
Health
Works to promote, protect, and maintain the health of the community by advocating for equal access to health education, treatment, care and research.
Housing
Studies housing conditions in the community and addresses complaints while opposing all restrictive housing practices.
Labor and Industry
Works to eliminate discriminatory employment practices regarding wages, training, promotion, and dismissals.
Legal Redress
Investigates all cases reported, supervises all litigation in which the branch interested and serves as liaison to the National Office.
Membership
The Membership Services Committee conducts membership drives and develops membership outreach initiatives to expand the capacity of the DC NAACP Branch. Works to maintain and increase membership by organizing membership campaigns, soliciting new members and securing renewals.
Life Membership
Focuses solely on recruiting Life Members and sponsors a continuing program to this end.
Political Action
Works to increase the number of registered voters, seeks the repeal of racially discriminatory legislation and improves the administration of the justice.
Press and Publicity
Secures publicity for the work of the Branch and the Association and serves as liaison to The Crisis.
Religious Affairs
Works to give an ethical interpretation to civil rights initiatives and enlist the support of religious groups of all denominations.
Youth Work
Coordinates programs and serves as advisors and mentors for our ACT-SO and youth council.
